Life After Oracle Autonomous Database

I will be presenting at Oracle Open World (OOW19) alongside my fellow ACE Director Francisco Munoz Alvarez. Please come join us at OOW19 to learn more on Oracle Autonomous Database & Cloud DBAs.

Does the Cloud Mean the End of the DBA? Life After Oracle Autonomous Database.

Session Code: CON2405
Topic: Innovate in the Cloud
Job Role: DBA
Products and Solutions A–Z: Business Intelligence and Analytics, Autonomous Database, Database Cloud Service
Session Type: Conference Session
SCHEDULE: Monday, September 16, 02:45 PM - 03:30 PM | Moscone West - Room 3014

The cloud is transforming the enterprise and the career path of the DBA. As the cloud gains momentum and migrations of applications and databases become more common, people can’t help but wonder whether the cloud means the end of the DBA. In this session learn why the answer to that question is No, but it is an agent in unprecedented change. Learn how the cloud is bringing about an evolution and what today's DBAs must know to be successful in a cloud-enabled future. Topics covered include how the DBA role is transforming into more strategic roles such as data architect, and how today's DBAs can prepare and develop skillsets that will translate into a successful career path in the cloud. The session also offers a look at trends and predictions on what will impact IT in the future.
SPEAKERS:
Tariq Farooq, BrainSurface
Francisco Munoz Alvarez, CloudDB

Autonomous Database on Dedicated Exadata Cloud Infrastructure - A Quick Overview

Autonomous Database on Dedicated Exadata Cloud Infrastructure - A Quick Overview.

Here is a very good blog post by Maria Colgan Master Product Manager at Oracle Product Management summarizing this offering by Oracle. Here is a quick recap on this topic.
  • You can get your very own Private Database Cloud on Exadata infrastructure in the Oracle Public Cloud. Now thats kinda cool.
  • You get two choices with Oracle Autonomous Database: Dedicated or Serverless.
  • With Autonomous Database, Oracle takes care of stuff for you: Autonomous Database Serverless automates database management/maintenance with all common management features provided by Oracle such as Configuration, Monitoring, Provisioning, Backups, Performance Tuning etc.
  • Dedicated Exadata Cloud Infrastructure in the Oracle Public Cloud enables total isolation from other tenants and requirements customization according to organization's specific footprint/needs.
  • Patching Schedules can be customized/scheduled according the organization's specific requirements.
  • Autonomous Container Databases are easy to provision, configure and setup.
  • The system can be partitioned into a customizable number of clusters or container DBs (CDBs).
  • Operational Policies can be customized e.g. Density, Patching/Updated Schedules, High Availability etc.
  • Summary
  • You can now get your very own Private Database Cloud on Exadata infrastructure in the Oracle Public Cloud with control over operational policies such as patching, versions, density, high availability etc.
  • With Serverless, you can quickly and rapidly build applications against without worrying about operational details such as patching, versions etc.
This video by Juan Loaiza gives a good recap on this topic.

I hope you got a quick overview of Autonomous Database on Dedicated Exadata Cloud Infrastructure.

Cheers.
